Is it possible to generate ideas in your sleep? According to researchers, you can. This happens when the brain is in a relaxed enough state to create new connections and neural pathways–also known as neuroplasticity. This explains why great ideas often come to you in the shower, on a walk, lying in bed at night, or even sleeping. The brain is relaxed enough to enable those new connections to form.
I did not realize this until it happened to me recently. It seemed crazy to me at first. But the more I researched it the more I found papers written on the topic. You may be asking, what does this have to do with accessible photography, well let me tell you.
When I’m changing settings on my camera before a shoot. I have to hold my camera on my lap, with the camera facing down, to make changes to my setting. When I’m doing this, I find it difficult to balance my camera. Not totally a big deal but just more of a hassle at times. I never gave much thought to finding a way to make it easier for myself.
So the other morning I woke up and it came to me, how I could make it easier for myself to make setting changes to my camera. Now that I think about it as I write this. Was it a dream? I don’t know. Because keep in mind, I was not looking for a solution.
Often I talk about photography gadgets that have more than one purpose, than what they were initially developed for. Well, I found one. It’s called a Z-Flex Tilt Head Z Type Tripod Head. You connect it to your tripod so you have the capabilities of turning your camera backward, forwards, or sideways on the fly.
Well, I found another use for it. I can connect it directly to my camera, and set it on a table. Then tilt the camera forward and do all the settings that I need. Something as simple as that. Then when I’m done, just collapse it and drop it in my bag.
